KAVA, EXPLAINED
What Does Kava Taste Like? Earthy, Peppery, and Distinct
A candid introduction to kava’s signature flavor and why it is often served in a single pour.
An earthy, peppery taste
Kava is often described as earthy, peppery, strong, and slightly bitter. The taste may be new if you have never tried a strained root drink.
Different products and preparations can taste different. There is no single tasting note that describes every kava.
Your first pour
Traditionally, a serving is called a shell because it may be drunk from a small coconut shell. How people serve kava can vary. Some follow a shell with a bite of fruit.
Follow the serving directions on the product label. Ritualt’s final recommended amount has not been confirmed here.
