RESPONSIBLE USE

Kava Safety and Responsible Use

Read the basics before you pour: product directions, situations that call for professional advice, and an FDA consumer resource.

Before using kava

This site provides general information, not medical advice. Kava can affect people differently. Follow the directions on the package, and do not exceed them.

Adults only; not for anyone under 18. Do not drive or operate machinery after drinking kava. Do not combine kava with alcohol.

Talk to a healthcare professional

Speak with a qualified healthcare professional before using kava if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, take prescription medication, or have liver problems. Ask a clinician or pharmacist about possible interactions for your situation.

FDA consumer information

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has published a consumer advisory about rare reports of severe liver injury associated with some dietary supplements containing kava. Read the FDA information and seek professional advice for questions about your health.

This general page is not a complete review of the research. Product-specific safety information and the final package label should be reviewed before launch.

  • Do not use this page to diagnose or treat a condition.
  • Stop and seek medical advice if you are concerned about a symptom.
